One Serving for All: Dairy Queen Reshapes its Look

NEW YORK -- The 67-year-old Dairy Queen feels it has milked its old logo for long enough.

The 5,600-location purveyor of milk shakes, hot dogs and hamburgers today announced it has redesigned its familiar red brand mark. The new logo, which will roll out on packaging and in ads throughout the year is “a slightly elongated ellipse enhanced with curved gold and blue bars signifying food and treats.”

The DQ logo underwent some minor tweaking five years ago, but this major overhaul was made with the intent of aligning all of the DQ-owned concepts.

Specifically, the new logo will, for the first time, attach the DQ name to Orange Julius franchises. “Our original DQ logo is one of the most revered in the quick-service restaurant industry,” said Michael Keller, chief brand officer for International Dairy Queen, in a statement. “The new, modernized version encompasses the tried and true DQ ellipse with modifications made to show our growth as a brand and to reflect the fun and enjoyment associated with our food and soft-serve treats.”
